Draft grant proposals and reports with AI, for nonprofits
Grant applications pile up while you try to run your programs and serve your community. Hand your scattered notes and old proposals to AI so you start with a written draft instead of a blank page.
What to gather first
- The funder's grant prompt and questions
- Notes from your recent program sessions
- One approved grant proposal from last year
- Your current project budget and goals
Which app
For this one, a plain AI chat window is enough. Open the chat, paste what you gathered, and type the message below.
How to do it
- Paste the funder questions. Copy the funder's application prompts into your chat window. Add any word limits or specific guidelines they gave you. AI reads the questions to shape the structure of your answers.
- Add your program notes. Paste your raw notes, stories from the field, and goals for the coming year. Do not worry about clean writing or complete sentences. AI sorts these rough details into the sections the funder requested.
- Include an older approved application. Give AI an excerpt from an application that won funding in the past. This gives AI your organization's voice, mission statement, and community background. AI uses that tone to fill out the new draft.
- Review and edit the draft. Read the draft against your real daily work with clients. Cut any flowery language that sounds unnatural. Fix the facts, add your real numbers, and send it to the funder yourself.
What to type first
I pasted the grant questions, my raw program notes, and an old proposal we won last year. Draft answers for each question using only the facts in my notes, in the voice of our past application. Do not make up statistics or community partners. Flag any questions where my notes did not give you enough detail.
Change the words to match your business. AI follows what you say, so say what done looks like.
Before you trust it
- Make sure every partner, neighborhood, and program detail listed actually belongs to your organization.
- Verify that the text answers the funder's exact question instead of wandering into generic mission statements.
- Check that the voice sounds like your team and does not use empty buzzwords.
Paste your monthly progress updates into AI to draft your mid-year funder report.
