Explain diagnoses in plain words with AI, for doctors

You spend evening hours writing portal messages to explain lab findings to worried patients. Hand those clinical notes to AI, let it draft everyday words, and review before you send.

What to gather first

Which app

For this one, a plain AI chat window is enough. Open the chat, paste what you gathered, and type the message below.

How to do it

  1. Paste the visit notes. Copy the clinical assessment and the recent findings. Remove the patient's name, birthdate, and contact details first. Paste the text into AI.
  2. Ask for plain phrasing. Tell AI to draft a patient letter at a middle-school reading level. AI swaps medical jargon for everyday words and organizes the findings into short paragraphs. The draft appears in your chat window.
  3. Add the next steps. Check that the follow-up instructions match your plan. AI drafts bullet points for home care, medication changes, and warning signs that need a call. It lists what the patient needs to watch for.
  4. Read and send. Read the draft against your original chart. Fix any nuance, tone, or dosage detail that feels off. Paste the final text into your portal and send it to the patient.

What to type first

Here are my de-identified clinic notes and lab results for a patient visit. Draft an email to the patient explaining these findings in plain, calm words. Use short sentences and explain any medical terms. List their next steps in bullet points. Do not add medical advice not found in these notes, and do not send anything.

Change the words to match your business. AI follows what you say, so say what done looks like.

Before you trust it

Try using AI to turn your clinic's routine prep sheets into plain instructions for older patients.
