Create custom practice exercises with AI, for tutors
You spend late evenings digging through notes to write fresh grammar drills and reading passages for tomorrow's students. AI drafts targeted exercises from your rough notes so you only spend time polishing them.
What to gather first
- Notes from the student's last two lessons
- List of words they struggled with
- One reading passage at their current level
Which app
For this one, a plain AI chat window is enough: ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. Open the chat, paste what you gathered, and type the message below. First time? Read how to talk to an AI.
How to do it
- Paste your student notes. Open a chat window on your laptop. Copy the notes you took during recent sessions, including grammar slips and misspelled words. Add a short note about what topics keep this student interested.
- Ask for targeted exercises. Send your prompt with the materials. AI reads your notes and drafts a short reading passage using the trouble words in context. It adds multiple-choice questions and fill-in-the-blank sentences below the story.
- Adjust the difficulty. Read the draft to see if the sentence structure matches the student's grade level. Tell AI to simplify complex clauses or swap out vocabulary if the text reads too stiffly. AI rewrites the draft based on your notes.
- Copy and print your sheet. Move the finished draft into your normal lesson template or print file. Check that the answer key matches the questions. You now have a custom practice sheet ready for the session.
What to type first
Here are my notes and missed vocabulary words from a student's last two English sessions. Write a short reading passage about their hobby, space travel, using these target words. Below the story, draft five comprehension questions and five fill-in-the-blank grammar sentences. Do not write a lesson plan or send anything to anyone.
Change the words to match your business. AI follows what you say, so say what done looks like.
Before you trust it
- Read the passage aloud to make sure the reading level fits your student.
- Verify that the target vocabulary words are used in the correct context.
- Solve the comprehension questions yourself to confirm the draft makes sense.
Try pasting a student's practice essay to let AI draft a list of specific grammar patterns to review together.
