Write a job post and sort applicants with AI, for startups
Hiring pulls you away from building the product while you drown in messy resumes and blank job posts. AI drafts the role description and organizes applicants by matching them against your real needs.
What to gather first
- A list of tasks the hire must handle
- Notes on your team style and work hours
- A past job description you liked
- Resumes or portfolio links from current applicants
Which app
For this one, a plain AI chat window is enough. Open the chat, paste what you gathered, and type the message below.
How to do it
- Draft the job description. Paste your rough notes about daily tasks and must-have skills into AI. Ask AI to write a clear, honest post about the role. You read the draft, cut the buzzwords, and add your own voice.
- Set your review rubric. Tell AI the specific traits that matter for this seat. Ask AI to create a plain list of three must-haves and three deal-breakers. Keep this list in the chat to guide the review.
- Sort the applicants. Paste text from the resumes you received into the chat. AI reads each background and compares it against your rubric. It returns a grouped list showing who fits best and who falls short.
- Pick candidates to meet. Review the summary notes AI drafted for the top profiles. Decide who you want to invite for a call. You send the interview emails yourself.
What to type first
Here are my notes for our new role, along with text from five applicant resumes. Draft a plain-English job description first. Then compare each applicant against the tasks in my notes and list who matches our needs. Do not send anything to candidates, and do not make final hiring decisions.
Change the words to match your business. AI follows what you say, so say what done looks like.
Before you trust it
- Make sure the job draft sounds like your company and mentions actual daily work.
- Check that candidates flagged as strong fits actually have the required hands-on background.
- Confirm AI did not invent skills missing from an applicant's resume.
Once your shortlist is clear, use AI to draft interview questions based on each candidate's specific background.
